Fun at Work

My boss has been busting my chops this week; but that's okay because I love my work.

And, lucky me, I only photograph beautiful properties; which makes my job so very easy.

Tis the Season

Since we don't have snow down here at sea level, we don't have snowpeople, we have sandpeople.

We are used to sightseeing helicopters passing overhead, but this morning we got buzzed down below the treetops.

No Escape

I can't get away from them. It seems that no matter where I swim these days, I get mobbed by hordes of Spinner Dolphins. This morning more than forty of them repeatedly approached me; I think they wanted to play. Many of them were already playing the leaf game and they wished I would join in.

Mobbed by Dolphins

I went out for a short swim this morning and was mobbed by nearly forty Spinner Dolphins. After being approached by them, I floated in place for fifteen minutes while they swam back and forth above, below and all around me. When they finally started to swim away, I made my break for shore.

The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers gathered this morning to begin working off all the Turkey, Stuffing and more which had been consumed at Thanksgiving feasts. What a perfect day for an ocean swim.

First Whales

Shortly after sunset yesterday, a mom and baby Humpback Whale swam past me. Hooray! My first sighting of the season.

Thanksgiving Part II

After a fun morning swim yesterday, I was fortunate enough to experience sunset and moonrise up on the mountain with some of the Pink Cap Swimmers. I'm still savoring the aroma of wood smoke which lingers in my hair this morning.

Lucky me!

Happy Thanksgiving

I am continually grateful for my amazing life - AND I got to spend Thanksgiving with both Mermaids in the water and Pink Caps on land. How great is that?!

This Crown of Thorns Starfish (middle photo) seemed to be having a Thanksgiving feast as well.

Pre-Thanksgiving Swim

Swim turnouts this week have been really low, but conditions have been great.

We saw a big stream of fresh Octopus ink, but not much else on our ocean swim this morning.

Playful Manta Rays

I had the pleasure of swimming with at least two large Manta Rays this morning, and some fun people too.

I managed to get some good photos for a change, click HERE to view a selection.

Too Colorful

These colorful fish (top photo) swam up to check me out this morning. They were so vivid that I had to turn the saturation down before posting them here. I never see fish this brightly hued.

Lucky me, I got to see a rare Hawksbill turtle (middle photo) today.

Finally, this portion of a larger school of Goatfish (bottom photo) must have mistaken me for a predator because they grouped together unusually tightly.

Typical

This is how (and where) I like to spend my evenings around sunset time.

Slugfest

Maui's Mermaids got to see lots of snail-related critters this morning. We found two Nudibranchs and two of the big Tritons which seemed to be getting intimate with each other.

Downhill All the Way

The Maui Pink Cap Swimmers were very happy to welcome Liz back into the ocean after a double hip replacement.

Conditions were crazy with strong north winds blowing, but we were smart and did the one-way downhill swim.

Still Warm

I am thoroughly enjoying swimming in the still-warm, pre-wetsuit ocean.

This morning I swam with four sea turtles, one shark (it was too quick and shy for me to get a photo), and lots of fishies.

Election Day Swim

http://www.tropicallight.com/swim1/06nov18LP/06nov18LP.html

http://www.tropicallight.com/swim1/06nov18LP/06nov18LP.html
Maui's Mermaids went in search of a Manta Ray which we heard was in the area this morning, and instead got mobbed by over thirty Spinner Dolphins. They wouldn't leave us alone; each time we would head off, they came back to visit us a little longer.

But, don't worry, we eventually found the Manta Ray.

Small Group - Not So Small Group

http://www.tropicallight.com/swim1/04nov18LP/04nov18LP.html

http://www.tropicallight.com/swim1/04nov18LP/04nov18LP.html
Very few people showed up for the Maui Pink Cap ocean swim this morning, but our numbers were soon supplemented by a group of Spinner Dolphins.

They circled us a few times before getting bored with our lack of playfulness.
