They've finally done it!
An underwater point-and-shoot camera which can save files in RAW format. And mine arrived in today's mail. Even though the waves were crashing and the water was not at all clear, I swam out into the ocean this evening to take some sample photographs. Lucky me - a turtle chose that moment to swim by. The top photo was saved in RAW format, the second photo in JPEG format. And the difference is clear. RAW is easily better.
And it even seems to create acceptable images above water, like the one below from my dead flowers bowl.
