Just like the Renaissance, sort of.
Patrons of the arts supporting artists working on a large scale can still be found. Check out the gates fronting any of the hundreds of mansions on Maui. Each one is unique and many are true works of art. While a few (upper right) are manufactured off island, most are built right here by local artisans.

my father built both of the houses behind the two wooden gates and my mother designed both of the gates. The top one started as a sketch which was then scaled up and carved in bali and the bottom was model in a 3D modeling program by yours truely before being built by I can't remeber.
