Humpback Whale Encounter

It was a shock when this humpback whale surfaced next to my kayak this evening. I had seen two whales off in the distance then nothing. Twenty minutes later they emerged way too close. My heart was racing, but I kept quiet. One whale swam around me then both swam off.


I held my little Olympus camera over the side of the kayak and was extremely disappointed by the quality of the underwater photos. I guess I'll be packing one of my bigger cameras for all future kayak outings.
